How do you see God’s special timing in your life? Just recently I contacted a dear friend who had just been told she has a brain tumour which was causing her terrible headaches and unsteadiness on her feet. The doctor was trying a medication to reduce the swelling of the tumour so that her current symptoms eased. I have known this lovely Christian minister for many years and love her dearly, but I was amazed when she told me she was glad and thanked God, that her husband has passed away within the last six months.
This statement puzzled me. Why would she be glad to be going through such a horrible time by herself? Wouldn’t it be nicer to have her loved one there to help, comfort, and support her? It just didn’t make sense to me. Then she explained it. Her dearly beloved husband had helped and supported her through many years of different health problems, but was not well himself. This type of news most probably would have killed him, leaving her very upset. So in kindness, God allowed this lady’s husband to pass away peacefully.
As she loves the Lord deeply she is not afraid of death, because for her death only means that she will once again see her beloved husband and meet face-to-face with her loving, kind, merciful God sooner. She thanks God for His timing, watchfulness over His servants, and loving care.
Very soon I will be travelling to visit and stay with this lovely, God-fearing lady and make some memories with her. Memories that I am sure we will both treasure for the rest of our lives.
What sort of memories are you creating every day of your life? Only a few people get to know that their time is nearly up and make the time to create memories while they are still with us. What about everyone else? Do you always tell people that you love them, appreciate them, and care about them – just for being themselves? Do you do your best to make others laugh, smile, or see a lighter side of life?
If you are doing these things you are making wonderful memories every day. Memories that other people will keep for a long time – especially if they outlive you.
I would like to challenge everyone to try each day to brighten someone else’s day. It may be as simple as smiling at someone you meet down the street; phoning someone that you haven’t spoken to in a while; write an email or letter to a loved one; give a flower to the special someone in your life. Whatever you do – remember that you are making memories!
Until next time – remember safety first!
