Recently I had a couple of my molar teeth pulled out and the gum was held together with stitches. It started off quite sore, which is to be expected. Instead of steadily getting better the pain rapidly became worse. I wasn’t sure if it was a dry socket or a dislocated jaw.
So back to the dentist I went. Turns out it was a dry socket. The dentist packed the hole with meds, and gave me a prescription which the pharmacist filled for me. For the next week I didn’t sleep properly due to the pain and I had difficulty talking.
Finally the stitches fell out and that night I slept for 10 hours straight!!
The next day an ad came on TV about a little girl who was going camping for Christmas. An older kid asked, "How is Santa going to find you on Christmas if you are camping?" The girl got worried. One night at the camp, Grandpa went out and "borrowed" Christmas decorations and a heap of light and made a big sign pointing to the girl's tent which said, "? is here!" The pain and lack of sleep had left me so emotional that I cried when I saw this add.
Then something else came on TV and I laughed like mad at something that really wasn’t funny at all.
This is not the first time in a long time that my emotions were so topsy-turvy. Loss of someone or something or physical pain can cause our emotions to seesaw badly until we get them back under control. This can be very disconcerting, but is a natural part of life as long as it doesn’t go on for a long period of time.
After taking plenty of time to rest and recover from all I went through, my emotions also settled down. I was then able to jump back full swing into everyday life again.
No matter what you are going through accept it for what it is. Don’t dramatise it. Stick to the facts. Deal with it the best you can, and you will come out all the better for it.
Until next time – remember, safety first!
